CBDs Effect on Anxiety & Depression

Cannabidiol is a non-toxic and non-psychoactive chemical found in the hemp plant. It is only one of the many chemical compounds called cannabinoids found in hemp and it is often abbreviated as “CBD”.

Cannabinoids can help us to regulate mood, appetite, sleep, and pain level. CBD is extracted from the hemp plant and then separated from the other cannabinoids.
Due to the separation the resulting product will not make the patient feel “stoned” or high, it’s even safe to be used by children.

CBD is a multipurpose medication. It can be used for so many different problems, from lowering certain hormones to treating epilepsy.

CBD is famous for success in relieving the symptoms of depression. It is not considered a cure, rather a treatment meant to reduce symptoms and improve quality of life for the patient. Taking the oil will not make depression disappear and cannot be substituted for seeking medical treatment.

CBD is a phytocannabinoid, meaning that it is derived from a plant, whereas endocannabinoids are produced in the human body. The cannabinoids created in plants can act as a supplement and give a sort of boost to the endocannabinoids that occur naturally in humans. CBD can also be used for seizures, muscle spasms and arthritis symptoms as well as others.

CBD works by binding with a receptor in our brains, receptor HT1A.

This receptor causes the release of serotonin. Ingesting CBD can help this receptor fire: improving mood by raising serotonin levels. Serotonin is one of the “feel-good” chemicals inside our bodies. In fact, a select subset of antidepressant medications also interfere with your serotonin receptors for means of treatment.

Serotonin elevates your mood and reduces stress, bringing emotional relief to patients that suffer from depression on two fronts. It was recently discovered that the vast majority of serotonin actually lives outside of the brain, in our gastrointestinal tract. Serotonin is found in all bilateral animals, some fungi, and some plants.

Depression can cause other symptoms aside from the main loss of joy and hopelessness. Depression can cause physical aches and pains, change in appetite, sleeping too little or too much. This is why CBD is such an effective treatment for depression: due to its ability to reduce multiple symptoms of depression simultaneously.

CBD is also helpful in treating the symptoms of anxiety and it helps relieve stress and tension. Anxiety disorders and everyday stress can lead to depression.

CBD helps your body handle stressors effectively and can prevent depression symptoms from occurring in the first place. Serotonin causes different chemical reactions system wide, meaning that CBD can help problems caused by low serotonin wherever they occur in the body.

Whether or not you are taking CBD for depression or other physical or mental disorders you are bound to notice it’s stress reducing properties. In fact, some people take CBD specifically to lower their stress level.

Lately CBD has become easier to access, whether you purchase it online or in store. Certain celebrities have even been spotted using water infused with CBD. Consider how CBD could improve your health and mood. Pay close attention, you may just notice other nuisances slipping away as well after you start taking some!

Hemp VS CBD: For Anxiety and Mood

Anxiety disorders affect over 40 million adults in the United States alone ¹. Adding hemp and CBD to your daily routine are effective ways to help manage anxiety.

Hemp is loaded with many essential nutrients that combat anxiety and boost brain function. CBD is a natural stress reliever and has been shown to be extremely effective at reducing symptoms of anxiety.

What is hemp? What is CBD?

Hemp and CBD both come from the cannabis plant, although neither will get you high. Hemp is farmed industrially for its seeds, fibers, and core. It can be used in a variety of ways, including as a source of food and as a building material.

Consuming hemp has a wide variety of health and dietary benefits, being that the plant’s byproducts are high in protein, fiber, and minerals. CBD is a naturally occurring chemical compound in the cannabis plant, typically extracted from hemp.

It has no psychoactive effects. Like hemp, CBD has many health benefits and can be used for medicinal purposes, relaxation, or even beauty.

What are the benefits for anxiety?

Hemp contains many vitamins and nutrients that have been shown to elevate mood and combat anxiety. No matter how you consume hemp, it contains vital nutrients such as vitamin E, magnesium, zinc, calcium, iron, and omega-3 fatty acids.

Vitamin E has many important roles in the human body. A vitamin E deficiency can lead to anxiety. It is particularly important to get enough vitamin E during times of stress, as the body uses it up quickly.

Magnesium is another important nutrient found in hemp. Like vitamin E, a magnesium deficiency can result in anxiety symptoms. Magnesium helps to regulate stress, relax muscles, and elevate mood. Americans are at a particular risk for magnesium deficiency.

Omega-3 fatty acids are another essential nutrient that hemp is rich in. They help combat anxiety by boosting mood and boosting cognitive function in the brain.

Adding hemp to your diet is a great way to ensure your body is getting the nutrition it needs to perform its best.

CBD oil is another wonderful way to help manage your anxiety.

Unlike many prescription drugs, CBD is non-addictive and comes with no negative side effects. It has been shown to reduce symptoms of anxiety, reduce stress, and promote relaxation.

There are many ways to consume CBD, such as soft gels, tinctures, or even vaping.

Soft gels and tinctures are great ways to manage anxiety throughout the day. For those with panic disorders or who experience anxiety attacks, vaping CBD oil can provide instant relief.

People with social anxiety may also benefit from CBD oil, as it lowers inhibitions and can help you to feel more relaxed. CBD oil is a promising, natural alternative to many prescription pills.

Breathe a sigh of relief (literally!) after a couple of “puffs” of hemp flower that may instantly alleviate your anxiety. .

Worried about getting high? Well, you shouldn’t. Hemp flower contains trace amounts of THC that are not even close to getting you high.

With hemp flower, you are receiving the healing effects of CBD without the high. Discover why you should try hemp flower for anxiety.

Anxiety and Hemp

According to the American Psychological Association (APA) anxiety is

“an emotion characterized by feelings of tension, worried thoughts, and physical changes like increased blood pressure.” [1]

If these, at times very normal, anxious feelings last for a longer period or become more severe, we are likely talking about an anxiety disorder.

The person then experiences “intrusive thoughts or concerns” that interfere with their daily functioning. [1]

Anxiety can be caused by multiple things at once, including stressors at work, relationships and family issues, brain chemistry, and genetics.

The most common symptoms of anxiety are: [2]

  • Feeling nervous, restless or tense
  • Increased heart rate
  • Uncontrollable feelings of worry
  • Rapid breathing (hyperventilation)
  • Seating and trembling
  • Feeling weak or tired
  • Difficulties sleeping and concentrating

Hemp Flower For Anxiety

Hemp flower is used as an additional therapy aid or main natural remedy to combat anxiety.

The healing effects of hemp flower come from its naturally occurring components, including cannabinoids and terpenes. CBD, one of the main cannabinoids in hemp, offers stress-relieving and anti-anxiety properties.

Another way hemp flower helps relieve anxiety symptoms is through the presence of terpenes. Even if present in lower levels, terpenes produce healing effects.

Myrcene is a terpene also naturally found in wild thyme that shows anxiety-reducing traits, while limonene and caryophyllene reduce stress and help you relax. .

CBD from Hemp: Benefits

Hemp is a variety of the cannabis plant that contains a higher level of cannabidiol (CBD) and less than 0.3% THC.

CBD will not cause a psychotropic “high,” but ease anxiety and stress without any side effects. Here are some of the biggest benefits of CBD:

Calms Social Anxiety

CBD may help. According to a 2011 study published in the journal Neurobiology, CBD may help people with social anxiety.

The study examined the effects of CBD compared to placebo on two groups of 12 participants diagnosed with social anxiety.

The group of 12 that was tested with 600 milligrams of CBD before a public speaking test showed less physiological signs of anxiety compared to the placebo group of other 12 participants. [4]

Proven Antipsychotic Properties

Many people with psychotic disorders like schizophrenia experience anxiety.

Studies show that CBD has helped patients with schizophrenia by positively impacting symptoms of the disorder.

By stabilizing symptoms such as racing thoughts, hallucinations, apathy, depression, CBD could be used in treating psychotic disorders. [5]

Therapy Aid

CBD offers anxiolytic properties that encourage relaxation.

This makes CBD a strong healing tool for people that have tried other treatment for anxiety and haven’t found relief or want to stay away from medication.

Combining talk therapy with CBD may help the user go through the therapy experience without feeling alerted or worried all the time.

Natural Antidepressant

Many times, anxiety and depression go hand in hand. The good news is, CBD is also a natural antidepressant.

A 2016 study published in Neuropharmacology found that CBD boosted serotonin in rats showing stress-induced depression.

Serotonin plays a crucial role in mood and stress management which makes this chemical a target of many antidepressant drugs. CBD also gave quicker relief compared to antidepressant medications that can take longer than two weeks to take effect. [7]

Reduces Learned Fear

Anxiety can also be a result of a learned response to some environmental and internal stimuli. A review published in Frontiers of Pharmacology suggests that CBD may reducing learned fear by: [6]

  • Decreasing the expression of fear
  • Disrupting the reconciliation of fearful memories
  • Enhancing the process of eliminating learned fear

Hemp Flower: The Entourage Effect

The entourage effect is one of the best things about consuming hemp flower.

Simply put, the entourage effect means that hemp flower produces better results if taken as a whole rather than each compound in its isolated form.

The effects produced from the synergic interaction of all naturally found compounds in hemp—including cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, and fatty acids—are stronger than each of these compounds taken in an isolated form.

A study from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem backs up the efficiency of the hemp flower and broad-spectrum CBD compared to CBD isolates.

The study found that purified CBD shows desirable effects only at a highly targeted dose range, which can be very hard to achieve.

Compared to CBD isolates, CBD enriched extract showed a dose-dependent response, which means that its effects change when the dosage change.

The authors of the study recommend CBD extract for the treatment of various conditions. [8]

New RATATOUILLE Enamel Pins!

Anyone can cook, but only the fearless can be great.

Thirteen years ago, director Brad Bird continued his Disney/Pixar legacy with the joyful animated feature RATATOUILLE. From poison checker to world-renowned chef, Remy's journey alongside the lovable Linguini is an amusing story about challenging stereotypes. Artist Graham Erwin cooked up his own take on those characters, with a third enamel pin of the titular cafe sign.

" RATATOUILLE is so jam-packed with charming details," explains Erwin, "it was a wonderful challenge trying to convey all of that personality on such a small surface. Despite their size, enamel pins always surprise me with their ability to capture even the tiniest details. I couldn't be happier with the sense of dimension we achieved with Linguini's transparent hat, or the minuscule typography on the cafe sign."

We are honored to serve these lovingly crafted pins for Disney's RATATOUILLE, which are ON SALE NOW via mondoshop.com!

"The Bounty" TIMED EDITION Giclee Print by Rory Kurtz!

Thank the Ancients for Jon Favreau. Not only is he one of the key figures responsible for launching the MCU and the filmmaker that gifted us with one of the best modern Christmas classics, but he is a bonafide STAR WARS master and one of the primary forces behind the excellent series: THE MANDALORIAN. Set sometime between the fall of the Empire and the rise of the First Order, the show follows a lone warrior and bounty hunter as he navigates the outer reaches of an all too familiar galaxy. The show proudly wears its influences on its armor - from Leone's Westerns to Samurai epics - and we fell in love with every gritty detail from week to week. From Ludwig Göransson's incredible score to Pedro Pascal's stoic performance as the titular Mandalorian, everything just sort of clicked in the best way. But there was one character who simply transcended it all: The Child.

Together with Acme Archives, we are happy to have teamed up with Rory Kurtz on a new poster for this instantly iconic new character to STAR WARS lore. Titled "The Bounty," Rory has beautifully brought life to one of THE MANDALORIAN's most captivating new characters, and will be available as a Timed Edition starting Friday, February 21 at 11AM CT and running through Monday, February 24 until 11:59PM CT. In addition to the timed edition release, we will also offer a limited edition 5"x7" graphite variant of Rory's artwork.

From Rory, “I can’t say exactly when my feelings toward The Child turned from hesitant curiosity, to full on fan obsession. I had started this small original drawing for the sheer fun of it, just two or three episodes into THE MANDALORIAN, and before even finishing it, I was just as ecstatic for The Child as everyone else seemed to be. Something about the child’s original trilogy design, and live real world puppeteering just brings so much more to the character than another forgettable CGI creation. That, and the certain mysterious understanding in it’s giant glassy eyes. The entire series is such a great addition to STAR WARS canon, and season two can’t come soon enough.”
